Our tours offer incredible dolphin and turtle sightings year-round, but whale season, from June to October, is truly a highlight. The National Park is at its calmest on weekdays, while weekends and school holidays tend to see more visitors. Even then, the ocean remains peaceful, ensuring memorable experiences no matter when you visit.

Yes. Dolphin sightings are frequent on our tours, with about 90% of guests spotting them throughout the year. The calm, nutrient-rich waters of the Marine Park attract dolphins, as well as a variety of other marine life like turtles and schools of fish.

Our knowledgeable guides are skilled at locating dolphins, and with the kayaking lasting between 1.5 to 2 hours, it’s usually a perfect window for sightings. While we can’t promise dolphins on every tour, we always aim to provide a memorable, wildlife-filled experience. We encourage you to enjoy all the wonders of nature, as each day brings new surprises, whether it’s dolphins, turtles, or even seasonal whales!

Kayaking: Our kayaking tours typically have 5-12 participants.

Surfing: Surf lessons usually have 3-6 participants, with a maximum of 8 per instructor.

Stand-Up Paddling: We typically have 3-5 participants, and can accommodate up to 12 on a tour.

All activities are usually held at the same location and time, with 4×4 vehicles traveling together. If you have a family or group with different activity preferences, they can enjoy the day together in the same vehicle and still participate in separate tours.

Tour Prep & Gear

Get all the details on what to bring, what’s included in the tour, and how to maximize your time with our essential packing tips.

For your tour, bring your beach essentials like swimwear, sunscreen, a towel, and a hat. Don’t forget snacks, a water bottle, and a change of clothes. Thongs or flip-flops are perfect for footwear!

We’ll have some light snacks waiting for you after the tour, including water, biscuits, and chips. If you’re planning to stay longer or need a little extra fuel, feel free to pack your own lunch or additional snacks. Just be sure to take any wrappers or food waste with you when you leave the National Park to keep the environment clean.

While we take care of your adventure, we can’t be held responsible for lost personal items. If you do decide to bring valuables like phones or cameras, it’s best to leave them in the vehicle. For peace of mind, any gear you bring should be waterproof and floatable—at your own risk, of course!

You’re welcome to bring a bottle of water, sunscreen, and snacks with you on the kayak. We kindly ask that you take all your items with you when the tour is over to help keep the Marine Park clean.

If you’d like to bring a phone, that’s fine, but keep in mind it may get wet. To protect it, consider using a waterproof pouch (we don’t supply these), and keep in mind that it’s brought at your own risk. Our guides will be capturing some photos with their cameras, so you can just enjoy the ride!

We provide life vests for safety, and depending on the weather, wet shirts or wetsuits to keep you comfortable. Anything else you bring will stay securely stored in the vehicle on the beach, so feel free to bring only what you’ll need.

All our kayaks are Viking double sit-on-top models, offering great stability and simplicity. For groups with an odd number of people, one participant will usually pair up with the guide or another guest. We also have 2+1 kayaks available, ideal for two adults and a small child (under 7) – just let us know in advance.

Our guides will make sure everyone is paired up appropriately based on the group’s needs.

Double Island Point is famous for offering Australia’s longest beginner waves, thanks to its long sandy point break and the spectacular rolling waves that spill beautifully along the coast. It’s a surfer’s dream on the right days!

When surfing in the National Park, it’s important to keep an open mind about the wave conditions. As a remote and wild location, the waves can be unpredictable, and we can’t always guarantee the perfect wave size or conditions for your specific skill level. But generally, the waves are very easy and calm at Double Island Point. Perfect to learn!

Feel free to reach out to us if you’d like advice on the best days to join us for a surfing safari during your stay. We’re here to help make your surfing experience unforgettable!

Safety-First, Access for All

No experience? No worries! Our tours are made for all ages, all fitness levels, and all kinds of fun.

Yes, we welcome younger children when ocean conditions are safe and calm. For families with little ones or elderly guests, a private tour is often the great option. It gives you more flexibility and a day tailored to your group.

When booking online, just add your child’s age in the notes section. Our team will check the conditions for that day and make sure it’s a good fit. If needed, we’ll also have a car seat ready in the vehicle, as required by law.

We welcome people of most ages and abilities on our tours, though sea kayaking does require a basic level of fitness. Around 75 percent of our guests have never kayaked, surfed, or stand-up paddled before, so you’re definitely not alone.

Kayaking at Double Island Point is usually calm and manageable for most. The distance we paddle changes day to day depending on the weather, where the wildlife is, and the overall ability of the group. You won’t be paddling the whole time—there are plenty of moments to relax, float, and enjoy the surroundings.

There is a maximum weight limit of 110 kilograms per person for sea kayaking.

If you’re unsure, our private tour is a great option. It offers full flexibility and can be adjusted to your group’s comfort level. If the activity ever feels too challenging, our guides can help you return to shore early so you can enjoy the Marine Park in your own way, whether that’s relaxing on the beach or taking a swim.

It’s not a frequent occurrence, but it does occasionaly happen. If you’re concerned about getting seasick, we suggest taking some over-the-counter motion sickness medication. Unfortunately, we don’t have any available on board.

We have been running safe National Park tours for almost 15 years and are highly skilled at reading weather forecasts and monitoring conditions for tours to Double Island Point. If the weather is not suitable for the tour, we will contact you right away to arrange a better time.

We occasionally receive concerns from non-local clients about public weather forecasts. Please note that tropical weather in Queensland is different from other regions. Rain or storms here can be very localised.

Tours generally continue in the rain, as tropical showers are often brief. However, we do not operate during electrical storms, large swells, or high winds. You can trust us to handle the weather, as your safety is our top priority.

The drive from the Bus Stop on Kirchner Ave (opposite The Deck @ Sea Salt) in Rainbow Beach to Double Island Point typically takes about 1 hour. This route is approximately 12 km long and is only accessible via 4WD.

Given the unique setting of the National Park and the significant operational expenses involved, we unfortunately cannot offer discounted rates for children on our Double Island Point tours. That said, we do offer more affordable prices for children on our Noosa River tours, which are tailored to families.
